It’s not often in the Southeast that one catches a truly wild fish from a small creek exceeding 12″. Even that is a quite respectable fish from a creek that averages not more than six feet across. Every now and then, we get lucky with our stealthy approach, delicate presentation, and perfect drift. This perfect storm, coupled with a little luck and the presence of a large fish, results in an event that will never be forgotten. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the video camera rolling due to rather depressing results to this point. I was able to capture a few pictures before the release.
If you are a Twitter follower, you may have noticed the hashtag #yearofthestreamer being thrown around with seemingly reckless abandon. Baseball had Year of the Pitcher, football had Year of the Quarterback, and this year fishing will have the Year of the Streamer. My goal is to fish with streamers as much as possible, no matter what the conditions are. Of course, it’s going to be hard to resist throwing foam hoppers in the middle of the summer, but even Justin Verlander gave up a few home runs and Aaron Rodgers threw a very small handful of interceptions.
This particular fish was caught using the Arizona Wanderings variant of the Simi Seal Bugger with two sets of rubber legs added.
